I think that the schedule that I have been given for this course is going to work perfectly!




In the article The Myth of "Too Busy" I came across this quote that I absolutely loved:

“BUSY” IS SOMETHING THAT HAPPENS TO US. PRIORITIZING OUR TIME IS SOMETHING WE MAKE A CHOICE ABOUT.

This gives me a new perspective in how I view my time management. At one point in the article, the question is posed about what would happen if one prioritized their schedule and time around the task that you are wanting to accomplish.

My strategy that I like to do is to make lists! Each week, I''ll go through all of my courses and write the days of the week and label which assignments are due what days. That way, I won't forget. With having 6-7 courses, I can get easily mixed up or forgetful. So doing this helps me stay on track and feel accomplished whenever everything has been checked off!

Technology Impressions

I am truly not very tech-savvy whatsoever. In creating my posts for my blog, it has taken me long thought processes to figure out how to work certain aspects of blogger. BUT, I am growing to like blogging!

This class is 100% unlike any other online class that I have taken... and I love it! This semester and even after this semester is over, I hope to continue blogging in some way (and maybe even be a pro at it by then).

First Impression Assignments

From a non-experienced blogger: 

To begin, this class is unlike any that I have ever taken before. Especially in the sense that I have never had a blog to create nor work on throughout the semester. I think that the assignments that I have read through so far all sound interesting. I do not have the most creative mind when it comes to making up my own stories, however, I think that it will be good for me to challenge myself and work on it. From the beginning of the course, I was intrigued by the Growth Mindset assignment. I look forward to doing this. Further, I enjoyed the HEART resources.

Growth Mindset

I had never heard of the growth mindset before watching this video. However, in learning about the spectrum, I think that the way that my mind has been equipped has been through a fixed mindset. I grew up thinking that I could ONLY get A’s and that was it. To get a B was literally the equivalence of an F. Not just school, but truly everything that I do, has to be perfect. There is so much that when I begin the concept, I expect it to be right. However, I think that this leaves for disappointment. 

For this semester, I personally am striving to soak up all of my last moments in undergrad. Even at the end of 4 years, I can honestly say that I have never stopped learning, most specifically about myself. I didn’t know how to study until a year ago. I still don’t write perfect papers. And yes, in my undergrad years, I have actually failed a class. I still get mad at myself whenever I see my transcript and think about that class, because I feel like I should’ve done better. So, what if I took my transcript and turned that F into “Not Yet”?

In listening to the TedTalk, I found it concerning that studies found that students would rather cheat on the next exam than study whenever they failed. Moreover, students would search for someone who did worse, and run from any difficulty. What I like about this concept is that it is said that abilities can be developed. And I think that it is a concept that can be detrimental to life.  

I am very interested in this concept and hope to learn more about it throughout the semester.

Introduction

Hi, all! I'm Kennedee! I am originally from Lawton, Oklahoma (born and raised). I am a senior Environmental Studies Major; however, after graduation, I plan on pursuing a nursing degree as well.  I hope to one day be a pediatric nurse. I’ve always had a love and passion for kids, so I’m excited about my future journey!

~~FUN, RANDOM FACT~~

I am one of 8 kids. We are all full blood siblings, even though we do not look like it at all. From the ethnicities we know, we are mostly Chickasaw and Japanese.  The oldest is 29 and the youngest is 16—and yes, there’s only ONE boy. My brother Carter is heaven-sent. In the lineup of kids, I am 5th. Here's a picture of all of us this year at Christmas:

Fur Babies! 

I have 4 fur babies- 3 dogs and 1 cat. Strangely enough, my cat is more of a dog than he is anything. He even likes dog food! Keeping up with these 4 is never a dull moment- ever! There’s always laughs, cuddles, and plenty of kisses to go around!

My favorite job: 

I am an aunt to 3 perfect humans and have another niece who is due in March. Her name is Baylee :) Being an aunt is my favorite job. They're my 3 little best friends, who keep life full of laughs and b u s y. Watching wrestling matches (my oldest niece and nephew both), gymnastics meets, school performances, basketball, flag football, etc. are so special.

Hobbies & Random Facts About Me:

- My hobbies involve lots of hunting and fishing. Me and my boyfriend Hunter are always finding something to do. 

- As talked about before, I love spending time with my nieces and nephew. On their farm, the possibilities are endless. 

- I love to read books whenever I have the time. 

-I have a heart for exploring new places, especially outdoors 

-My favorite color is purple 

- I’ve never read, nor seen the movies to any of the Harry Potter series (I want to, though!)

- I love Mexican Food and really any Asian cuisine, especially Bulgogi! If anyone is ever in Lawton, I 100% recommend going to The Junction. I promise, it’ll change your life. 

- I really only watch TV right before bed, but I love- I mean really love- to watch crime shows. It probably isn't the greatest type of show I could watch before I go to sleep, but I find them incredibly interesting.

Native American Legends: Tejas Tales

I enjoyed reading the introduction to this story. It’s not anything that I have ever heard of before and being Native American, I thought that this would be an incredibly interesting story to read. One of my favorite quotes from the introduction is the following: 

“These Native American Indian legends have endless appeal and value for people of all ages.   Whether the audience be a young child looking for a UT tale full of excitement, mystery, and magic or a grown person seeking for a bit of insight these tales can fulfill that craving.” 

As a Native woman, I think that this perfectly encompasses the beauty of storytelling in our culture. The author beautifully words their introduction and creates a vibrant picture for the reader about what is to come. I have always loved the art of Native American storytelling, so this particular introduction really stood out to me. I also think that native storytelling has a folk tale centered ideology, however, it also ties in mythology as well.

I enjoyed this Introduction. I think that there is whit behind the author’s purpose and it shows in the way that it is presented. This radio station goes on air to basically talk about whatever people want to call in about- whether it be to apologize to or embarrass someone. I enjoyed this mainly due to the happy-go-lucky and care-free, open environment that this creates. It further gives so much room for there to be topics all over the spectrum, rather than it all pertaining to only one.

The Real Veggie Tales

In this introduction, it talks about the misunderstanding of vegetables, especially through childhood. I grew up watching veggie tales and so this was an instant connection that I made in my head. It further speaks of humans not consuming the recommended servings of vegetables. I think that this page is well presented and gives a good layout of the overall message, while telling a story using different types of vegetables.

My favorite places & Adventures

My favorite place is honestly anywhere that it outdoors! I haven't gotten to travel a ton, but the places that I have gotten to go to and explore have been incredible! Here are some of my favorite adventures:

Gore, Oklahoma! I went here over the summer to rainbow trout fish and my boyfriend ended up catching a Paddlefish with his hands!

The two pictures above were taken at our deer lease right outside of Tipton, Oklahoma. I spent many, many days and early mornings at the lease this year doing everything to prepare for deer season and even got to squeeze in a few dove and teal hunts!

In the last few months, this pond has been one of my favorite places to visit, even if it is at 5am. It's located in Elgin, Oklahoma and is the pond of one of our family friends. This picture is from a week or so ago when my boyfriend and I both got a banded goose!
